Diamond In the Rough

I have had this laying around for awhile but haven't been ready to do anything with it.

I do find that sometimes I look at things for a long time before I know what I want to do with it and then it just hits me.
When I saw these awesome paints next to this paper (floral in the background), I knew that was the color combo for this jewelry box.* A note about these paints, these are ment to have a more transparent quality that is beneficial in art journaling or mixed media canvas project when you are creating layering and want things to show through. So I would choose a regular acrylic paint for this type of project if i was doing it again. I did find that I had to do many layers to achieve a opaque effect. *

First I sanded down the box lightly, this makes the paint adhere to the wood better.

Then I painted it with modern red, I did a couple of coats till I was happy with the coverage. Then I applied the gloss medium to the wood and after measuring and cutting the paper to size, I then adhered the paper on each side.

Once the paper was adhered to the jewelery box I smoothed it out making sure there were no bubbles. Then I covered the paper again with the Claudine Hellmuth gloss medium, this will create a glossy look to the paper once dried.

At first I thought that I would use the Tim Holtz tissue, which I love, but I didn't think that it went with the look in this case. Instead I decided to use the patterned paper on the front and I think it was the right choice.

I then inked the paper using my Tim Holtz Distress Ink and then coated the paper with the gloss medium. Then I glitz it up with some Stickles outlining the leaves and flowers in the paper.

I am happy with the end result, now I just have to think about what to hold in my new box....
